If you have never been in a fight, never struck, kicked, punched, gouged, or delivered a knee into the groin of an attacker, you are likely to freeze up and your body yield to “fear paralysis”. That is, you literally cannot move due to fear, and that gives the advantage to your attacker.
The Grind is one of our drills in which the students engage in combat conditioning, while stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline are released. Your blood pressure and heart rate increase. This “puts you in the action”. Your body feels it, you work through it and your come out victorious. In the event of an attack, you have “been there before”…in your mind, in your mind to muscle connection, and your respond accordingly.
