1. How long is the self defence training?
We try to be flexible to meet client needs, but our recommended duration is for a 3.5 hour session. We have done self defence taster classes for 1 hour, and introductory classes of 90 minutes and these will give you a brief overview.
A self defence course of 3.5 hours allows us to delve into the psychological side of self defence, as well as the physical responses. We believe that psychological knowledge is just as important as physical – learning about how attackers may profile you, how you may react to adrenaline and how to switch on and avoid dangerous situations is crucial.
2. Which areas do you cover?
We provide self defence training across the whole of the UK and we will travel overseas too.
3. How many people can you train?
We will normally train up to 30 people per session, this allows us to connect with each and every person and give them the personal tuition they need. This may be higher depending on the situation e.g. we train higher numbers at schools and online.
4. Do you train men and women together?
We can train men and women together but we prefer not to and we do recommend that you offer separate self defence training sessions for them.
Self defence training does cover sensitive topics and some women will have had incidents in their lives where they have been sexually assaulted or attacked – in most cases by a man. Our experience is that women feel more comfortable to share and participate when they are in a female-only group.
5. Is your self defence training all physical?
No, at least two thirds of our time is spent gaining an understanding of how to avoid dangerous situations, being aware of your environment and being prepared, mentally and physically. We then cover key self defence techniques that are simple and easy to remember – this includes effective striking techniques and The Shredder, understanding strike zones, breaking free from grabs and holds and time to practice them.

6. What should I wear for your training?
It doesn’t really matter what you wear. Something comfortable would be good but in a real-life situation, you aren’t going to be in gym kit and trainers. Normal work-wear is fine.
7. How many training sessions do I need?
It depends on which level you want to achieve. Once you understand the psychological side of self defence that knowledge should stay with you and change your behaviour patterns. With regard to the physical part of self defence, after one 3.5 hour training session you will be able to defend yourself. However, you may want further training to increase your confidence, skills and physical fitness.
8. How often should a company hold self defence training for their employees?
It’s up to each individual company, but an annual self defence training session works well as part of the corporate well-being programme. This allows new staff to take part and refreshes skills for people who may have taken part before.
In follow up sessions, people who have trained with us will often share how they have changed their habits and made changes in their lives to keep themselves safer. These tips are great for new participants who can see that planning ahead and being aware can help you avoid danger.
If you have staff who are in high risk jobs or are lone workers then you may wish to train them more frequently.
