Food Storage Starter Kit – Survival Prepper

Food Storage Starter Kit – Survival Prepper

Having a month’s supply of food storage is simpler than you might think.  It’s known as a Food Storage Starter Kit. One box (19 x 13 x 7.5) could feed one person three meals a day for one month. The box has six #10 cans. These cans are bigger than a typical can. The food in a #10 can is dehydrated or freeze-dried for a long shelf life. This type of food storage will not create gourmet meals, but it will provide vital substance in times of hardship. The starter kit can be used, just as the name suggests, to start building your food storage pantry.  Or it can be stored away, forgotten under the bed until it’s needed.

Food Storage Starter Kit Should:

  • Contain food that lasts 10-20 years. No need to replace it every two to five years like most small canned goods that contain food stored in liquid. This is possible because the food is dehydrated or freeze-dried and sealed.
  • Take up a small amount of space. It could be stored under a bed or in a coat closet.
  • Each can should have 15 servings or more:
    • (2) Breakfast Cans 15 servings = 1 month
    • (2) Lunch Cans 15 servings = 1 month
    • (2) Dinner Cans 15 servings = 1 month

What Goes in a Food Storage Starter Kit?

Below are two lists of items commonly found in food storage starter kits, dry food staples or premade meals. The dry foods list has basic food staples which can diversify meals by changing the way they are prepared. For example, a Mexican bowl one night and an African Bean Stew the next night, depending on what spices you have in your kitchen cupboard. Premade meals are nice because you won’t need other ingredients.
