Women fight back every day around the world against oppression, crime and brutality. But these stories rarely ever make headlines.
Instead, the media and mainstream continues to push the “helplessness” theory of women by continually reporting on the negative.
This next story comes out of Evansville, OH about a 79-Year old woman who fights off an intruder with her knife.
A 79-year-old woman who scared off a robber with a knife on Tuesday is telling her heroic story to FOX 7. The attempted robbery was the latest in a string of break-ins in Daviess County. Doris Ranson has always been prepared to take care of herself–but says she never could have anticipated what happened this past Tuesday.
It was 1:30 Tuesday afternoon when 79-year-old Doris Ranson laid down to take a nap before some guests arrived later that evening. That’s when she heard a loud crash.
“I wasn’t even to the door of the bedroom and he came into the hallway. I don’t know who was the most surprised, me or him. I think he was really surprised to see me.”
He then told her to go back in the room. ”I said I just want to know who you are and what you’re doing here, and that’s when he sprayed me for the first time.”
It was mace that he sprayed, but lucky for Doris she was wearing her glasses which kept most of it out of her eyes. He then pushed Doris and as she tried regain herself he pushed her again.
“He put his hands on my shoulder and pushed me down hard and I hit the back of my head on the bed side table.”
Doris has made it a habit for years to always have a knife or something to protect her nearby. As Doris attempted to get off the floor, she noticed the handle of a knife she stashed away under her bed years ago.
“I looked kinda rolled up my eyes and saw the handle of the knife sticking there and from that point until it was all over with it was not so much really me.”
Doris grabbed the knife and sprung to her feet.
“I started at him with the knife and he ran. he was white as a sheet. He said ‘no please stop.”
But Doris continued after him until he was out the door.
“I was pushing on the door, the knife was in my right hand and he was leaning in on the other side and his hand was in and I was trying to get the knife over to the other side where I could hit his hand.”
The burglar finally retreated and Doris was safe. She now has this advice for anyone watching.
“I would say ladies be sure that you’ve got your protection. Have something that you can protect yourself with. Don’t be afraid to fight back and trust the Lord to take care of you.”
Doris does have a security alarm but before this, never armed it during the day. Now Police have told her to keep it on at all times. She was able to get a good loook at the man and she said he was well dressed and clean cut. She warns everyone to be careful who they answer the door for, no matter what they look like.
