One of the hardest things to decide when out on an adventure is what my nutrition choices will be. The internal debate is usually: healthy or just fill the belly; pots and pans or something quick to fix. RightOnTrek has made those decisions a lot easier for me.
After receiving four meals from them, 2 breakfasts, and 2 dinners, the answer of what days to try them became simpler. I would eat them on the days I had the least flexibility and tightest time frame due to my Wilderness Medicine teaching schedule.
THE MEALS
The RightOnTrek Cheesy Mushroom Egg Scramble
Of the four meals, I had one that I was most eager to try simply because it was how I make my eggs in the mornings. Light and fluffy and with the included packet of olive oil, less mess and non-stick to the cup. The taste was phenomenal. I didn’t add anything to them until after the first few bites. I like a little spice with my eggs and instead of adding my normal hot, chopped jalapenos, I just added a splash of Authur Wayne hot sauce. The RightOnTrek Cheesy Mushroom Egg Scramble didn’t disappoint and hit the spot for me to take on the day.
The RighOnTrek Hearty Morning Coconut Granola
Following the previous night’s smoked pork loin sandwich, I needed another great start to the day. I ripped open the RightOnTrek granola pouch, added a little hot water, and topped it with a little cream. As a fan of blueberries, I was not disappointed with the berry, coconut, and walnut ratio. The taste was like a little party in my mouth of crunchy granola, sweet blueberries and coconut, and a tiny hint of tartness from the walnuts. A great mix and another meal that didn’t let me down.
The RightOnTrek Broccoli Beef Stroganoff
Needing to quickly eat before an evening scenario, I grabbed the Broccoli Beef Stroganoff. Expecting something resembling a beef and broccoli Chinese meal, I quickly ripped open the pouch and started heating up water. While not quite what I expected from the type of meal, it was flavorful and a great way to end my nutrition quest for the day. The bits of beef and broccoli in a sour cream sauce were a great combination to meet my appetite and satiate me until the next morning despite having a few more hours of running through the woods while teaching. My energy levels stayed higher than I expected and I blame that on the RightOnTrek nutrition design.
The RightOnTrek Cauliflower Forest Chicken Risotto
Rounding out the packages and grabbing another quick meal before running through the forest for another Wilderness First Responder scenario was the RightOnTrek Cauliflower Forest Chicken Risotto. Maybe it is due to the shallots but I am not sure how the word Forest played into this meal but it tasted great just the same. My favorite meal from RightonTrek has always been their Chicken Coconut Curry. I may have found my new go-to for their meals. By mixing the cauliflower and chicken in a lemon cream sauce, the flavors were enhanced beyond all belief. I looked forward to each bite and at the end, was wishing for more.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Since I had my previous review for RightOnTrek posted on YouTube I was happy to see the new packaging as well as the great strides RightOnTrek has made for the outdoor world. I left the meal choices in the hands of their capable representative to send what they wanted to showcase. RightOnTrek’s Mac and Cheese has been ranked #1 by Backpacker Magazine and I can see why. I have not regretted tasting any of the meals. Full of flavor, nutritious, and easy to prepare.
