Inflation? What Inflation? Crime? What Crime? Porous Borders? Gas Prices? – The American Spectator

The Democrats seem quite settled on making abortion their showcase election issue in two weeks. Toward that end, like people drowning in Egypt, they are mired in denial.

On the abortion front, almost as many voters agree with the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision of five months ago as disagree. Smart Republicans know that, for now, they do not have to advocate complete bans on all abortions and should focus instead on Democrats’ murderous insistence on permitting even late-term abortions up to the day of birth, a position most Americans find despicable.

This November’s elections are not and will not be about abortion any more than they will center around baseball’s decisions to make bases larger, ban defensive shifts, or set timers for pitchers. This November is about inflation, prices at the gas pump, baby formula shortages impacting tykes not aborted, and the crime explosion in an environment of Soros-sponsored district attorneys dispensing with bail and setting violent criminals loose as soon as the police arrest them. It will be about funding versus defunding police forces, securing a porous southern border that has seen a record two million-plus illegal crossings already this year, a phenomenon deeply opposed even by Hispanic Americans who are sick of it, the crime that illegal immigration brings into their neighborhoods, and the crushing negative impact it has on suppressing their wages.

For independent suburban women voters — once called “soccer moms” but more recently sucker moms — this election is not about abortions; they chose to have kids, and few — if any — of them would risk delaying an abortion until after 15 weeks. Instead, they have to feed their kids baby formula imported from Europe, and they have to fill their gas tanks to drive the kids to soccer, school, or the dentist. They have to buy food at the supermarket. And wait until they start getting their winter gas and electric home-heating bills….

Those trying to enter the housing market face insanely rising mortgage rates. Those already in houses purchased with ARMs — adjustable rate, rather than fixed, mortgages — are being priced out of their own homes. They then find home rentals exploding through the roofs as interest rates explode to control the Democrats’ inflation policies.

Cars are costing twice what they should. Between supply shortages and computer chip shortages, there are multi-year waiting lists because of car shortages in this land of plenty.

Chinese-manufactured solar panels and Arab sheikhdom dirty oil, produced by tyrannical Muslim extremists who tolerate slavery within their borders, replace plentifully available American energy. So, instead of a cleaner fossil fuel supply produced under American clean-climate laws and regulations, Biden and the Democrats have closed down pipelines like Keystone XL, hydrofracturing on public lands, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge exploration, and other sources of bountiful American energy, compelling us and our trading partners to turn to Arab Muslim dictators, Putin, and Iranian ayatollahs. If the idea is to clean up Mother Earth, what could be more foolish than closing down American clean energy and replacing it with filthy Arab sheikhdom and Putin and Iranian Ayatollah oil and gas? And, as a bonus for the insanity, the Arab Muslim cartel announces they will reduce their oil production to raise our prices — and why not? — driving the fools in the White House to react by emptying out our national emergency petroleum reserve.

Amid all this, parents of public schoolers are in a panic over curricula that borrow precious class hours from the school day — hours that historically have been devoted to teaching mathematics, grammar, spelling, literature, honest history, and honest science — so that children now can learn that gender dysphoria really is healthy transgenderism. And if any kids in class would like to pursue sex change operations, let us know after class, and we can direct you to “medical professionals” who will help you cut off your male organ or female breasts, mess up and disfigure your body, and condemn you to severe medications for life.

And don’t worry, kids. We won’t tell your parents.

The country is in a mess. Biden promised to govern as a moderate liberal, a unifier from near the center. Instead, his policies have been more radical than Obama ever dared introduce and his appointments have placed minor leaguers in places of national consequence — including (i) a vice president who is a joke and moron, the result of having risen in California politics as a married political power broker’s very public consort and not as a gifted leader or thinker, and (ii) a press spokeswoman who is positioned way above her pay grade and reads her answers because she dare not think on her feet with television cameras rolling. Along the way, Biden has become the divider-in-chief, broadly defaming all conservatives as closet fascists. (READ MORE: Is the Red Wave Back?)

For Pelosi, meanwhile, her big strategy decision a year ago was that she would bury Republicans somehow by conducting her third Trump impeachment in three years, this latest version being the Jan. 6 Committee. After she generated some mild curiosity and interest among political junkies to watch her committee’s professionally staged opening session, she lost the country’s interest. No one — other than the Democrats’ left-wing media outlets at ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, and the Washington Post — cares about the Jan. 6 Committee, and most Americans long ago have assumed that the committee had finished its business — long gone and disappeared … like baby formula. Indeed, perhaps the Jan. 6 Committee’s one meaningful achievement has been to bury Rep. Liz Cheney politically, a deep loss to Wyoming’s LGBTQIA+ community and a congressional anti-Trump contingent of zero.

Facing skyrocketing inflation at the grocery shelves and gas pumps, signs of impending recession and spiraling interest rates, unaffordable housing and food prices, exploding crime rates, transgenderism and critical ethnic studies in the elementary grades, and a porous southern border that is hopelessly out of control, the Undecideds — who tend to stop posting on Instagram and defer watching TikTok to pay attention to impending elections only in the last 15 days before voting — now are breaking toward the Republican aisle as they inform themselves of the stakes and the cost of steaks. Other Republicans who are displeased with their party’s candidates’ human flaws and imperfections are now coalescing to hold their noses and to vote GOP anyway because the alternatives — the likes of Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock and Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman — are so much worse, and the prospect of Democrats controlling the Senate any longer is beyond disconcerting. Mark Kelly might make a worthy American ambassador to the Moon, but life on Earth matters, too.
