Winter Arrives – Canadian Preppers Network

I don’t know what was more exhilarating, getting out there in the fresh cool air and getting the blood pumping on the business side of a snow shovel or coming back inside to feel the warmth of the wood stove and a hot cup of coffee. Winter is here.

While I had no misconceptions that the unusually warm start to November would continue for any real amount of time, I was still caught with my pants somewhat down. I did get the firewood stacked and covered, the tempo garage went up last weekend, I got an extension from the town for my septic cleaning deadline, and snow removal was arranged and paid for. That being said, I still have a trailer full of power equipment and fuel to unload and get placed, and I’m still looking for an inexpensive used snow blower for the small jobs, and we still have a few boxes to unpack.

Just keep plugging at it is about the only thing I can do.

All this while war still rages in Europe, with all it’s twists and turns. Yes, the threat of nuclear war is still in play, but it seems that the further along this war carries on, the less of a real threat it becomes. On that front, I was as prepared as I could be months ago. One less thing to worry about.

Inflation continues to cut into the budget, and I suspect I’m not alone. So far, we have resisted the idea of cutting into our food reserves. We still eat food, and still replace it as we go along. Of course, watching the flyers for specials is a big help. We have always bought our food this way. Stocking up when things are on sale and making it last until the next special comes along. I don’t think we’ve paid regular price for anything but milk and bread for over a decade now. Just another advantage of having a good deep pantry.

As a prepper, there will always be something to do. Always another project to work on. As a consequence, there will also always be something that didn’t get done. It’s not a failure. It’s a reminder that life never stops. It’s a reminder that the world will never stop throwing curveballs at us. It’s a reminder to keep plugging away at projects.
